NX on Amazon Appstream 2.0 Deployment Guide

Late last year, Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched new graphics instances on AppStream 2.0.  To try out these instances, the NX Product Marketing team configured NX CAD on AppStream 2.0 and recorded a video to show the fluid and responsive experience of streaming NX CAD. Since then it has generated a lot of enthusiasm in the user community and several NX CAD users have experimented with this setup. It has also been covered in dedicated sessions at user conferences such as PLM Connections, PLM Europe and Regional User Group meetings. Customers who have tried it had a very positive experience. Can you explain why the guide recommends to disable the Google Chrome Update Service and why this does not impact application or data safety?

The recommendation to turn off the update service is based on the guidance from AWS. As per AWS, many applications have embedded http help links within the application. If you don’t turn off IE ESC, then Windows will prompt an error dialog every time when you click on a link.


The advantage of streaming an app is obvious, but when will we be able to do this with a managed session of NX?  Of all the various virtualized and/or streamed solutions I've always seen only native NX or Teamcenter w/o CAD integrations.  Never the two together.  There's obvious complexity in streaming or otherwise abstracting the entire stack but there has to be some plans to mitigate for the future.


Also a question regarding Appstream and AWS Gov Cloud for using streamed NX with important IP up to and including ITAR data.  According to the docs, GovCloud doesn't support Auto Scaling for AppStream 2.0 fleets.  I'm assuming that means you can still use AppStream 2.0 fleets with GovCloud, you just have to manage your user load manually.  Is that a correct understanding?

NX Managed Services now supports managed NX Appstream connected to Cloud based Teamcenter.  I do not know what industry vertical you are interested in, but customers can initially engage with Rahul Sharma. 

Also, from your input, we are looking into producing a second guide with help for various streaming setup sceanrios of NX together with TC.
